DVD/Media Organizing Storage System

We've been taking on lots of organizing projects while Steve is in between school and employment.  We've sold a few boxes of stuff to the consignment store, donated even more to Goodwill, and have plans to re-do the bathroom in the next week or two.  I was inspired to blog about this project though because it may have made the biggest impact so far.  We gained a ton of space by organizing our DVD collection into sleeves ($12 for 100) and an organizer ($10) I found at Target.  We still need to get another box of sleeves to finish up and another organizer to make it easier to look through the collection.  We color coded by series, kid movies, Steve's movies, and Margaux's movies but there's lots of options if you choose colored sleeves.

It's pretty self-explanatory what we did so here's the project in photos:

Steve: But what are we going to do with the extra cabinet space?
Me:  ...this is not a bad problem to have.

All the plastic cases (75+) we'll list on Craigslist or Freecycle or just take to the recycling center if no one wants them.  One cabinet is still for Steve's games.  We'll keep them in the boxes since we usually sell most of them back to the game store once he finishes or we upgrade to a new system some day.

Here's a couple other systems that got me inspired for the project here and here.

$22 is WELL worth all those beautiful empty cabinets.  So what DO you think I should put in my new empty cabinet space?

Oh, and in case you were wondering how the TV cabinet fits into the whole living room here's a photo from April 2012:

And if you're curious about how we corral the toddler toy clutter in our living room you can read about that here.

  3. Wow, why have I never thought of this before? So simple and will clear out a lot of space in our tiny media console!
