Touch up spackle and sand
Remove silicon from around sink
Tape off baseboards and tub
Paint (it took 3 coats because we were going from a darkish color to a much lighter color)
Replace silicon around sink
Touch up baseboards
Hang "art"
Clean
And a few other things we tackled ahead of time.
For our paint color we chose String of Peals from Olympic to lighten and brighten up the bathroom. Olympic is our go-to paint of choice because they have a No-VOC formula which is a greener choice (I'm not an affiliate nor do they sponsor me, I'm just a happy customer). We also spent a few dollars extra for the high gloss kitchen and bath paint since there are no windows and those walls have to deal with a lot of extra moisture. You can see how the paint color we chose fits into the rest of the house here with my pin board.
I'm so good at the low-light photographing but here ya go. Remember what it looked like before:
And after:
I went totally trendy with an ikat pattern but I couldn't resist when I saw it on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond for $10. The blues, greys, and creams tied into other rooms of the house as well to keep things flowing together. The white rug used to live in Darwin's nursery but helps brighten up the bathroom and we weren't using it in his room anymore anyway. I hung my paint chip craft above the toilet and above the towel rack and hung two white frames with some silver paper that I already had (to pull out some more of the gray in the shower curtain). I still think I might replace the paper with some black and whites of D splashing in the tub... but maybe not since we'll be listing the house soon anyway...
*One tip: painting behind a toilet is not quite as tricky as a I thought. I wrapped a garbage bag around the whole thing then found a skinny roller on a long pole at the hardware store. Problem solved.
I'm definitely in love with this long overdue makeover.
